52 Year Old Former Female US Legislator Dies; Death Attributed To Sucide
Mississippi Bureau of Investigation officials are looking into the death of state Rep. Jessica Upshaw, who was found dead at a residence in Simpson County on Sunday.
The 53-year-old Republican lawmaker from Diamondhead in Hancock County died of a gunshot wound to the head, Simpson County Sheriff Kenneth Lewis told WLBT-TV.
“It appeared to be self-inflicted,” he said.
Lewis told The Clarion-Ledger that Upshaw was found at the home of former state Rep. Clint Rotenberry in Mendenhall. Rotenberry was first elected to the House in 1992. He lost a Republican primary runoff to Andy Gipson in House District 77, covering parts of Rankin, Simpson and Smith counties, in 2007..
Simpson County Coroner Terry Tutor would not release any details on Upshaw’s death.

MBI spokesman Warren Strain said Sunday afternoon the bureau was in the early stages of its investigation.
“The crime scene unit is processing the residence, and the investigators are conducting interviews and following leads. It would be premature to make any statement regarding the investigation at this point.”
Upshaw, who was single, had served in the Legislature, representing District 95, since 2004. She was chairwoman of the Conservation and Natural Resources Committee.
“Deborah and I were saddened to hear of the passing of Rep. Jessica Upshaw,” Gov. Phil Bryant said in a statement. “I have known Jessica for many years as an unselfish and dedicated public servant. This is a tragic loss for her family and all Mississippians, and our thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this difficult time.”
Republicans and Democrats alike were stunned by the loss, the fifth for the Legislature in a year.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear colleague Representative Jessica Upshaw,” said Rep. Bobby Moak, D-Bogue Chitto. “Jessica was a fixture in her seat on the back row of the chamber, where she passionately championed causes for her district and the state. This is an instance where replacement is not possible. Jessica will be sorely missed.”
Al Qaeda Terrorists kills French hostage held in Mali
According to a CNN report, a French hostage held in Mali has been executed by al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, Mauritania's ANI news agency reported late Tuesday.
The agency attributed the information to an AQIM spokesman.Six other French hostages are still being held in Mali, ANI said. The spokesman reportedly told the agency that the March 10 execution was in response to France's military intervention in Mali, and that French President Francois Hollande "is responsible for the lives of the rest of the hostages."
What led to Mali's disintegration?
Before the ANI report on Tuesday, the French foreign ministry released a statement quoting Hollande as saying there are no "financial discussions" ongoing to gain the release of French hostages in various countries.
The ministry said it is in constant contact with the families of those being held, and that everything is being done to gain the release of French hostages.
French involvement in the Malian conflict began on January 11, the day after militants said they had seized the city of Konna, east of Diabaly in central Mali, and were poised to advance south toward Bamako, the capital.
Islamist extremists carved out a large haven in northern Mali last year, taking advantage of a chaotic situation after a military coup by the separatist party MNLA. The militants banned music, smoking, drinking and watching sports on television. They also destroyed historic tombs and shrines.

American Father kills son, Shoots Wife And Committed Sucide
Breaking News: According to a March 24 ABC top news report, an American father killed his 2-year-old son and shot himself on Saturday. While trying to retrieve her son's dead body, the man's estranged wife was also shot in the face, but is expected to survive the attack. This happened in Pennsylvania and an ongoing investigation into the shooting is part of an alleged murder-suicide over a heated child custody battle, according to authorities.
Huntingdon County authorities say Mr. Kenneth Ayers, 52, is the man believed to be behind the bloody rampage that left him and his son Michael dead.
Ayers' estranged wife, Hollie Jo, filed a "protection from abuser order" against him, but it allowed for visits with the couple's son. "Father kills son, self" updates paint a gruesome set of details.
Yesterday's visit was arranged to take place at the man's mother's home in Barree Township. However, at some point, Ayers and Jo got into a heated argument.
At some point, the alleged shooter pulled out a handgun and shot the woman in her arms and legs. He then turned the gun on his son and fired, killing the child.
Moments later, he placed the child's lifeless body into the back of his truck and shot his wife in the face as she was retrieving her son.
Authorities say Ayers even shot at his own mother, who tried to intervene. Luckily, she escaped unharmed.
After the father killed his son, he turned the gun on himself. Police found his body miles away in a deserted area of Warriors Mark Township.
A source wrote that it's "unknown" why the man was carrying a gun when it was forbidden in the restraining order. However, with the history of alleged abuse, arguably, it's obvious why he had a firearm at the time of the shooting.
Sadly, children are often caught in the middle of domestic squabbles. While domestic matters involving children are not rare, when a father kills a son and himself, it's unsettling.
